Former President Trump said Tesla SpaceX CEO Elon Musk may not be able to fulfill his assumptions White House Due to his demanding schedule running various companies, he was appointed to the Cabinet by the Cabinet.
“He wants to be involved. Now look, he’s running big businesses and stuff, so he can’t, really, I don’t think he can be in the Cabinet,” Trump said of Musk in an interview with the former president. Trump’s comments could give him an opportunity to withdraw from his newfound alliance with Musk if he defeats Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the November election.
“As the saying goes, he can negotiate with the country and give you some very good ideas,” Trump said, using artificial intelligence as an example of how Musk could help.
Just two years ago, Trump and Musk were publicly feuding, trading insults in public forums such as social media and at political rallies.
But they became allies in this election as Musk moved further into right-wing politics. Last month, Musk publicly endorsed Trump shortly after the former president was subjected to an assassination attempt.
Previously, Musk helped form a pro-Trump super PAC in May. Meanwhile, Trump has reappeared on the X platform after a multi-year hiatus, during which he posted exclusively on Truth Social, a website run by Trump Media.
Both men have floated the idea of co-governing if the former president wins re-election.
Earlier this month, Musk said in a conversation with Trump that was broadcast live on Channel X: “I think it would be great to have a government efficiency committee. I would be happy to help with such a committee.”
Trump’s comments about Ryan suggest there remains some distance between the two men.
“Elon and I have a great relationship. He’s great,” Trump told Ryan. “He was a completely unusual figure…but he was a brilliant man.”
