YouTube on Wednesday announced an artificial intelligence feature for creators on its Shorts platform that will take advantage of Googleof deep thinking Video generation model.
These characteristics are called I understandwill allow creators to add AI-generated backgrounds to their films and generate stand-alone six-second film clips using written prompts. YouTube CEO Neal Mohan said he hopes Veo can help creators create more Shorts videos with the help of AI.
“The AI technology we’re showcasing is designed to really enhance the work you do, making it faster, more efficient, and bringing your ideas to life faster,” Mohan said at the Made on YouTube event in New York.
Veo AI background is an upgraded version of the similar AI-generated function “Dream Screen” announced by YouTube in 2023. The company said its Veo AI background feature will launch later this year, while 6-second AI clips will be available in 2025.
Also announced at the event are new features in the YouTube Studio app that allow creators to use artificial intelligence to generate titles, thumbnails and video creatives. YouTube says these features will be rolled out by the end of 2024.
Creators are always exploring ways to leverage generative AI technology. Creators have used new technologies to insert clips into films or create films entirely generated by artificial intelligence.
However, some creators are concerned that their YouTube videos are being used to train the AI models that build Veo.
“I don’t know how I feel about all this artificial intelligence stuff,” said Thomas Simmonsis a comedian with over 15 million subscribers on YouTube. “It doesn’t fill me with confidence and love.”
There have been criticisms that other services such as Facebook have been Spam, AI-generated content. There are also concerns that content generated by artificial intelligence may violate intellectual property rights protection.
YouTube’s AI-generated content will be watermarked and carry a label indicating it was created by AI, the company said.
Generative AI offers a new perspective on the creator economy, giving creators free access to the tools used by large-scale language models.
We’re “really at the intersection of technology and creativity,” Mohan said. “Putting those two things together gives us a unique perspective that everything we build is actually designed to enhance human creativity.”
