Asia-Pacific markets opened lower on the penultimate trading day of the year after Wall Street fell on Friday.
Korean Cospi It fell 0.3%, and the Kosdaq fell 0.41%. South Korea suffered its worst air crash on Sunday when a Jeju Air plane crashed into a wall and caught fire at Muan International Airport, killing 179 people. Jeju Air shares opened down 13%.

U.S. stocks fell on Friday, led by technology stocks, but major averages were still up for the week.
The blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 333.59 points, or 0.77%, to 42,992.21 points, its first decline in six trading days. The S&P 500 fell 1.11% to 5,970.84 points. The Nasdaq fell 1.49% to 19,722.03 points, Tesla fell about 5%, and Nvidia fell 2%.
