The tech executive said you don’t have to be the smartest person in the room, you just need to surround yourself with really smart people. Here’s why.

Have you ever felt like everyone else in the room is smarter than you? John Lombard, CEO of Asia-Pacific IT company NTT Data, said this may not be a bad thing.

“You don’t have to be the smartest person in the room,” he told CNBC’s “My Biggest Lesson.” Instead, you should surround yourself with “really smart people,” he says.

“Always hire people you think are smarter than you.”

Hiring these people often leads to some of the most innovative business decisions. Lombard noted that they have a knack for challenging the status quo rather than simply accepting the norm.
