Benny GanzA centrist member of Israel’s three-person war cabinet announced his resignation on Sunday.
The move poses no immediate threat to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who still controls a majority coalition in parliament. But the Israeli leader has become more reliant on his far-right allies.
Gantz is a popular former military chief who joined Netanyahu’s government shortly after the Oct. 7 Hamas attack in a show of solidarity.
His presence also enhanced Israel’s credibility among international partners. Gantz has a good working relationship with U.S. officials.
