Biden says he may quit if ‘health situation’ arises

President Joe Biden says he may reconsider continuing to run against Republican nominee Donald Trump if his doctor tells him he has a “health condition.”

BET host Ed Gordon asked Biden in the interview, which will air in full Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET: “What is your personal hope… of saying, ‘If I saw that, would I reevaluate?

“If I had some health problem, if someone, if a doctor came to me and said, ‘You have this problem, you have that problem,'” Biden responded, according to a video clip shared ahead of the broadcast.

The 81-year-old Biden, who performed poorly in last month’s presidential debate, has firmly resisted calls from within his party to withdraw from the race.

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., who is likely to win a U.S. Senate seat in November, called on Biden to drop out of the presidential race and let the party nominate another candidate.

Schiff expressed “serious concerns about the president’s ability to defeat Donald Trump in November.”

“While the choice to withdraw from the race is President Biden’s alone, I believe it is his time to pass the torch,” Schiff said.

Vice President Kamala Harris has spoken publicly for the first time on camera about the attempted assassination of Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania rally in which one person in the crowd was killed and two others seriously injured.

Harris first expressed her condolences to the family of slain former Pennsylvania firefighter Corey Competore during her remarks to a Michigan abortion rights group. She also said she was “grateful” that Trump was not more seriously injured in Saturday’s shooting.

“Violence is never acceptable,” Harris said. “One of the issues we face now is how we should engage with each other in this campaign.”

Harris then combined her sympathetic message with political talking points to make the case for her and President Joe Biden’s re-election.

“Just as we must reject political violence, we must also have a robust discussion about what is at stake in this election,” she said. “One of the key ideas and one of the principles of this election is the issue of reproductive freedom, and that’s what I’m talking about today. New poll finds two-thirds of Democrats want Biden to drop out of race

About two-thirds of Democrats believe President Biden should drop out of the presidential race and let someone else take the lead, according to new polls from the past few days.

a new one AP/NORC poll A survey released Wednesday showed 65% of Democrats believe Biden should step down. The poll surveyed 1,253 adults from July 11 to July 15. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.8 percentage points.

The Democratic National Committee has pledged that the virtual roll call process to designate President Joe Biden as the party’s official presidential nominee will not begin before August 1, according to a letter to delegates obtained by NBC News.

A virtual roll call could begin as soon as next week, and some Biden allies are pushing for the process. But other Democrats hope Democratic National Committee The early voting process was delayed to give the party time to identify a new nominee as concerns grew about Biden’s age.

“Our goal is not to grow quickly,” wrote Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Bishop Leah Daughtry, co-chair of the Democratic National Committee’s rules committee. “None of this will be rushed.”

The letter from the Democratic National Committee eased some concerns on Capitol Hill.

Shortly after the letter was released, House Democrats canceled efforts to collect signatures on a draft letter that would have called on the Democratic National Committee to host the nomination process in person at the Democratic National Convention as usual.

“We are pleased to see that the pressure is working and the DNC will not continue the hasty process, so we will not be sending a letter at this time,” said a spokesman for Rep. Jared Huffman, D-Calif., who is leading the push. Democratic lawmakers behind the action told CNBC.

Walz and Daughtry noted that while the Democratic National Committee has promised that the virtual voting process will not start before August, it will be completed before the start of the Democratic National Convention on August 19.
