Delta Air Lines hires law firm to seek compensation from Microsoft, CrowdStrike after software outage

On July 19, a software update for CrowdStrike caused a historic failure of Microsoft systems, paralyzing many industries. Airlines have been particularly hard hit, with the U.S. Transportation Department last week saying it was investigating Delta Air Lines, which suffered massive flight disruptions and service failures.

CrowdStrike lost nearly a quarter of its market value in two trading sessions amid concerns about the company’s business following the incident.

Although a lawsuit has not yet been filed, Delta plans to seek compensation from Microsoft and CrowdStrike, Lebeau reported. Delta Air Lines has not responded to a request for comment.

The outage cost Delta between $350 million and $500 million. Delta Air Lines is processing more than 176,000 refund or reimbursement requests after nearly 7,000 flight cancellations.
