The company first revealed the possibility of a hostile takeover at the last D23 expo in 2022 as part of a series of “blue sky” projects it was considering, but was unsure whether they would materialize.

In the latest quarter, however, consumer demand slowed and inflation picked up at Disney’s domestic parks in California and Florida. The company expects this flat attendance to continue into the coming quarters.

Still, Disney is bullish on its experiences segment, which includes theme parks, cruise lines and restaurants. The company has pledged to invest $60 billion in experiences over the next 10 years, a key part of its strategy to keep parks fresh and relevant in a competitive market.

About 70% of the funds will be used for new experiences in domestic and international parks and cruise lines. Another 30% will be spent on technology and infrastructure, including the maintenance of existing attractions.

On Saturday, Disney fans learned where the investment was going with the help of some big names.

Rita Ora performed “Trust Me” from “The Jungle Book” on stage to announce a new villain coming to the Magic Kingdom. In the Magic Kingdom, Villainland is unfolding. This new area of ​​the park will include two major attractions as well as shopping and dining options.

D’Amaro told viewers that this area will be different from the areas at Disney California Adventure and will take place in the wilderness. There will be an e-ticket attraction, an exciting cross-country rally, and a second, more family-friendly ride. Construction is expected to begin in early 2025.

D’Amaro noted that these expansions to Magic Kingdom are the largest ever in the park’s history.

D’Amaro said construction will begin in the fall and guests will have to wait and see what happens with the Orlando-based attraction’s new story.

As part of the land of Tropical America, Disney is creating Puebla Esperanza, which means Village of Hope. The company is building the “Casita Madrigal” in “Encanto” here and will have an attraction centered on the character of Antonio, who has the magical gift of talking to animals. Casita animated the house furniture for guests touring the house, where they would venture into Antonio’s jungle room.

Part of this area will also feature a new carousel themed after carved wooden animals from classic Disney stories.

‘Epic’ partnership
