Former President Barack Obama told the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday night that “America is ready for a new chapter” and “we are ready for President Kamala Harris.”
“Kamala Harris is ready for the job,” said Obama, who won the White House ahead of his Republican vice-presidential rival, former President Donald Trump.
Obama, who left office after two terms, lashed out at Trump and compared the Republican to Harris.
“This is a 78-year-old billionaire who has been complaining about his problems ever since he rode the golden escalator nine years ago,” Obama said of Trump’s 2015 announcement of his candidacy at Trump Tower in New York. the president said.
“Childish epithets, wild conspiracy theories and a strange obsession with crowd size,” Obama said, drawing widespread laughter from the Chicago convention audience. “This goes on and on.”

But Obama argued, “Kamala Harris won’t focus on her problems — she will focus on your problems.”
“Kamala Harris is ready for this job. She has spent her life fighting for those who need a voice and support,” Obama said.
The former president said Harris “stood up for sexually abused children” when she was a prosecutor in California.
“As attorney general of America’s most populous state, she fought against big banks and for-profit colleges, winning billions of dollars for the people they defrauded,” he said. “After the mortgage crisis, she urged My administration and I work hard to ensure homeowners get a fair settlement.”
Obama also praised Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
“I love this guy,” Obama said, before adding: “You can tell those flannel shirts he’s wearing don’t come from some adviser, they come from his wardrobe and have been through some stuff.”
Obama also had warm words for President Joe Biden.
“I can say without a doubt that my first big decision as your nominee was one of my best decisions, and that was to ask Joe Biden to serve alongside me as Vice President,” Obama said. ”
“With the exception of some shared Irish ancestry, Joe and I come from different backgrounds,” he said. “But we became brothers. We worked together for eight years, and what I admire most about Joe is not just his intelligence and experience, but his empathy and integrity; his hard-won resilience and the way he treats everyone An unshakable belief.
