Former First Lady Michelle Obama directly challenges former President Trump’s decade-long administration Efforts to slander The Obamas spoke at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Tuesday.
“Donald Trump is doing everything he can to try to make people fear us,” Obama explain. “Doubling down on ugly, misogynistic, racist lies in lieu of ideas and solutions that actually make people’s lives better.”
“I wonder who’s going to tell him that the job he’s looking for right now might just be one of those ‘black jobs,'” she quipped. The joke, which drew laughter from the crowd, was a reference to Trump’s recent insinuations that low-skill jobs are “black jobs.”
A Trump campaign spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment late Tuesday.
Obama’s unapologetically partisan approach to the Republican nominee on Tuesday was rare for the former first lady who encouraged Americans to transcend politics.
One of the most popular figures in the Democratic Party, Michelle Obama’s name was floated as a fantasy presidential candidate earlier this summer when Democrats pressured President Joe Biden to Withdrew from the race after a June debate performance.
But the former first lady has never publicly expressed an interest in running for office. In contrast, Obama’s previous convention speeches have often expressed a clear intention not to get involved in political disputes.

On Tuesday, she compared Vice President Kamala Harris to Trump, a move aimed at undermining Trump’s carefully cultivated image as a real estate billionaire and media mogul.
“Most of us will never enjoy the grace of failure,” Obama said. “We will never benefit from affirmative action for generational wealth.”
“If our businesses go bankrupt or go into crisis, we won’t get a second, third or fourth chance,” she continued. “If things don’t go our way, we have no way of complaining or deceiving others to make further progress.
“We can’t change the rules, so we always win,” she said.
