sony announced on Tuesday the PlayStation 5 Pro, an upgraded version of its console that will be available on November 7 for $700.
The launch of Sony’s updated PS5 console comes amid a global decline in console sales. In August, Sony reported that it sold 2.4 million PlayStation 5 consoles in the fiscal first quarter, down from 3.3 million units in the same period last year.
Sony said the PS5 Pro will be equipped with an upgraded graphics card with 67% more computing units than the current standard PS5 model, resulting in a 45% increase in game rendering speed. Sony is also touting new artificial intelligence features that can upgrade graphics with sharper image clarity and more detailed visuals.
The PS5 Pro features “advanced” ray tracing, a computer graphics technology that simulates how light bounces off reflective surfaces.
Sony said that the PS5 Pro is equipped with a 2 TB solid state drive, which is larger than the customized 825 GB solid state drive in the PS5. It comes with Sony’s DualSense wireless controller and supports Wi-Fi 7.
Sony said several games will have the title “PS5 Pro Enhanced Edition” and have features that can run on the new console. For example, Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Demon’s Souls, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 7 Reborn, Gran Turismo 7, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West “, “Marvel’s “Spider-Man 2”, “Ratchet & Clank: Rift” and “The Last of Us Part II: Remastered”.
