A Biden administration official said on Tuesday it was “dangerous” for Ohio Republican vice presidential candidate Sen. J.D. Vance to promote false conspiracy theories Haitian Immigration Stealing and eating other people’s pets.

Vance admitted it was “possible” that a rumor he spread about immigrants eating pets could turn out to be false, while police in Springfield, Ohio, faced harsh criticism after they said they had no information to support the conspiracy theory. .

“We are deeply concerned that now elected officials in the Republican Party are pushing another conspiracy theory that is simply an attempt to divide people based on lies and, let’s be honest, racist elements,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters this was in response to Vance’s initial claims of eating pets.

“This kind of language, this kind of disinformation is dangerous because no matter how ridiculous and stupid it is, there are going to be people who believe it and they might act on that information and act in some way. They might get hurt,” Kirby said.

“So, it needs to stop,” he said.

Vance shared a video on X’s social media post on Monday in which he addressed a Senate committee hearing on the surge of Haitian immigrants living in Springfield, Ohio.

“A few months ago, I raised the issue of illegal Haitian immigration draining social services and causing chaos throughout Springfield, Ohio,” Vance tweeted.

“Reports are now emerging of people’s pets being abducted and eaten by people who should not be in this country,” Vance wrote.

“Where is our border czar?” Vance said, referring to Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris.

Vance and other Republicans attacked Harris, claiming she is responsible for illegal immigration into the United States.

His tweet comes a day before Republican presidential candidate and former President Trump is scheduled to debate Harris in Philadelphia.

Other leading Republicans, including Trump’s son donald trump jr.. and Mori. Ted Cruz Texas – Pet food claims on X are also repeated.

Springfield police said Monday they had no information to substantiate “rumors” about Haitian immigrants and pets.

“In response to recent rumors about criminal activity among our city’s immigrant population, we want to clarify that there are currently no credible reports or specific claims of individuals within immigrant communities harming, injuring, or abusing pets,” Springfield Police said. “My office has received many inquiries over the past few weeks from actual Springfield residents who say their neighbors’ pets or local wildlife have been kidnapped by Haitian immigrants,” Vance wrote in a new tweet on Tuesday.

“Of course, it’s possible that all of these rumors could turn out to be false,” Vance wrote.

Vance is scheduled to attend fundraisers in North Carolina and Pennsylvania on Tuesday before taking part in the spin room after the Trump-Harris debate.
