Detroit- General Motors Chevrolet has updated its high-margin large SUV for the 2025 model year to defend the brand’s longstanding segment leadership.
GM said the Detroit automaker’s Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban have led the mainstream full-size SUV market for more than 45 years. But competition from carmakers is increasing, e.g. ford cars, Jeep and Nissan are slowly chipping away at the automaker’s market share.
“What we did today was a little offensive,” Chevrolet Vice President Scott Bell said Tuesday at a media event in suburban Detroit. “We certainly respond to competitors from multiple sectors.”

Chevrolet’s full-size SUV retail market share is approximately 34.2%. Combined with GMC’s sibling Yukon and Yukon XL SUVs, GM’s market share is 64 percent, according to the automaker. That’s down from more than 70 percent the last time the vehicle was fully redesigned for the 2020 model year.
GMC’s large SUV has also been updated for the 2025 model year. ford and Nissan The large three-row SUV on sale this year has been updated.
Typically, vehicle updates include new styling, larger interior screens, enhanced performance, and in some cases the addition of new high-end models to boost profits.
For Chevrolet, the 2025 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban tick many of those boxes and add GM’s hands-free Super Cruise advanced driver assistance system.
“Overall, they are critical in our portfolio,” Bell told CNBC. “They are very important to us from a profitability perspective and have been for four years.”
Pricing for the 2025 Tahoe ranges from about $60,000 for the Tahoe LS to more than $83,000 for the high-end High Country. Pricing for the 2025 Suburban will range from about $63,000 to more than $86,000. Price includes a mandatory destination charge of $1,995.
The updated SUV is expected to start arriving at U.S. dealers in the coming weeks, the company said.

General Motors said sales of the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban are down sharply this year due to model year transitions and lower fleet sales, but the brand continues to lead the segment comfortably.
Chevrolet SUV is essentially the same car but different sizes, its total sales down 19.3% As of September, sales reached 102,292 units compared with the same period last year.
The Ford Expedition is the Chevy SUV’s closest competitor, with 2023 sales totaling 73,396 units.
