President-elect Donald Trump said on Saturday that former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo would not be invited to join his administration.
Trump posted on social media: “I will not invite former Ambassador Nikki Haley or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to join the Trump administration currently being formed.” “I greatly enjoy and appreciate working with them in the past, And thank them for their service to our country.”
Trump is meeting with potential candidates in his administration ahead of taking office on January 20. Reuters reported on Friday that Trump met with prominent investor Scott Bessent, a potential candidate for U.S. Treasury secretary.
Haley, the former South Carolina governor who served as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations under Trump, supported Trump’s presidential bid despite harsh criticism of him when she ran against him in the party’s primary.
