Detroit- star The transatlantic automaker has delayed the launch of its Ram electric pickup truck from this year to the first half of 2025 as it continues to test vehicles.
Chief Executive Carlos Tavares declined on Tuesday to provide details about what was causing the delays or the timing of the delays for the electric trucks, which include all-electric “REV” models and the extended-range “Ramcharger” with generators and gas engines.
“We are facing a very large workload, and we want to be very cautious in the way we validate our products, so we are taking our time to make sure we can handle the peak,” Tavares said in an interview with online media. “We don’t want to rush…it’s better to take a few more weeks to get it right than to rush and then make a mistake on quality. That’s what we’re doing now.”
Tavares said work needs to be completed on the Dodge Charger Daytona and Jeep Wagoneer S electric vehicles, expected to be released by the end of the year, before moving on to new trucks.
Stellantis’ upcoming electric pickup truck is the first model built on the company’s new “STLA Frame platform”, which is suitable for large trucks and Jeep SUVs. It is expected to be a “multi-energy platform” capable of carrying internal combustion and hybrid vehicles, as well as electric models using batteries, fuel cells and extended-range electric propulsion systems.
Stellantis said the Ramcharger extended-range electric vehicle can operate as a zero-emission electric vehicle until the battery is depleted and an onboard electric motor-generator powered by the 27-gallon, 3.6-liter V6 engine kicks in to power the vehicle.
The automaker on Tuesday reconfirmed plans for the REV to be able to travel 500 miles on a single charge, as well as the Ramcharger’s expected class-leading range of up to 690 miles.
“We’re managing the peak between the products in front of us,” Tavares said. “The U.S. market is going to see a huge product blitz in the coming months.”

The launch of Stratis’ U.S. electric vehicle offensive comes at an inopportune time for the automaker, as President-elect Donald Trump vows to roll back or repeal many of the Biden administration’s goals and restrictions on all-electric vehicles. Car funding.
Reports emerged last week that Trump’s transition team planned to eliminate the $7,500 consumer tax credit for electric vehicle purchases as part of broader tax reform legislation. Doing so would fulfill Trump’s campaign rhetoric about eliminating such incentives and electric vehicle initiatives.
Tavares has criticized the administration’s electric vehicle regulations but also touted their benefits, saying the company “will adapt” to any changes made by the Trump administration.
