President-elect Donald Trump is considering appointing Kevin Warsh as Treasury secretary and then ultimately as chairman of the Federal Reserve, according to a person familiar with the matter. The Wall Street Journal reports.
According to the Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with Trump’s thinking, Warsh himself has served as a Fed governor. Current Chairman Jerome Powell’s term will expire in 2026, and Warsh will become chairman of the Federal Reserve.
Treasury is speculated to be the last major Cabinet position for which Trump has yet to signal his intentions.
Various reports listed Wash as one of the finalists, along with Apollo Global Management CEO Mark Rowan and hedge fund manager Scott Bessant. A likely scenario is that Bessant would initially lead the National Economic Council and then move to the Treasury Department after Warsh takes over at the Fed.
However, Trump is known for his tendency to change his mind, and the report noted that nothing has been finalized yet.
