New arctic winds will bring more snow to the Great Lakes and Northeast as winter weather disrupts traffic and leaves thousands stranded.
After several days of harsh winter weather, lake effect snow is still impacting downwind areas of Lake Erie and is expected to continue into Wednesday.
The weather will continue to improve this week: A severe Clipper Storm — a system that formed in Canada and crossed the Great Lakes into the United States — will move from Quebec on Thursday, bringing heavy snow to Michigan.
About 5 million people in the Great Lakes region, including South Bend, Indiana, were under winter weather and lake-effect snowfall warnings on Tuesday. Muskegon, MI; Cleveland; Erie, PA; and Syracuse, NY.
A Clipper weather system will bring snow to the interior Northeast and New England by Wednesday, while snow will intensify downwind of the Great Lakes. NBC meteorologist Michelle Grossman said earlier Tuesday that up to 12 inches of snow could fall in some areas.
