President-elect Donald Trump says venture capitalist and podcaster David Sacks will join the Trump administration as “White House AI and cryptocurrency czar.” declare On the Society of Truth Thursday.
Trump wrote that Sachs will guide the administration’s artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency policy. Some of these jobs include creating a legal framework for cryptocurrencies, and leading President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
“David will work to make America the clear global leader in both areas,” Trump wrote. “He will defend free speech online and steer us away from Big Tech’s bias and censorship.”
The appointment marks a sign that Trump’s second administration is rewarding Silicon Valley figures who supported his campaign. It also suggests that the government will push for policies that are generally supported by cryptocurrency entrepreneurs.
Sacks became a major Trump supporter earlier this year, hosting a fundraiser for the then-Republican candidate at his San Francisco residence. Tickets are priced at $50,000 per person, with the $300,000 tier including perks such as photos with Trump.
