U.S. President-elect Trump said on Thursday that he has chosen former Senator David Perdue to serve as ambassador to China.
Trump said in a post on his social media platform Truth Social, “He will play an important role in implementing my strategy to maintain peace in the region and establish a productive working relationship with Chinese leaders.”
Trump, who took office on January 20, 2025, said he would impose an additional 10% tariff on Chinese goods unless Beijing takes more steps to stop the trafficking of the highly addictive narcotic fentanyl.
During the campaign, he also threatened to impose tariffs of more than 60% on Chinese goods.
