U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen spoke with South Korean Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok on Tuesday to discuss the political turmoil that followed South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol’s attempt to impose martial law last week.
The U.S. Treasury Department said in a statement that Yellen “appreciated the close communication between South Korea’s Ministry of Economy and Finance and the U.S. Treasury Department following recent events in South Korea.”
The U.S. Treasury Department said after a virtual meeting with Cui Tiankai: “Yellen also reaffirmed the strong relationship between our two countries based on shared democratic values and expressed a desire to continue bilateral cooperation.” She also discussed “macroeconomics” with Cui Tiankai and financial development” each other.
