this FBI and Department of Homeland Security said Thursday they have “no evidence” that mysterious drone sightings over New Jersey and neighboring areas in recent weeks “pose a threat to national security or public safety.”
The agencies also said they had no evidence that the drones had “foreign ties.”
“Based on a review of available imagery, many of the reported sightings are in fact manned aircraft and are operating lawfully,” the agencies said in a statement.
“There were no reported or confirmed drone sightings in any restricted airspace,” the agencies said.
The FBI has been investigating reports that there may be dozens of drones operating at night, most of them larger than those used by amateurs.
Sightings have occurred at a Bedminster, New Jersey, golf course owned by President-elect Donald Trump, as well as near a military research facility.
