American Airlines Flights were grounded across the country Tuesday morning due to technical issues, causing travel troubles as airlines expect record demand for the holiday.
However, an American Airlines spokesperson told CNBC that the ground stop had been canceled by 7:55 a.m. ET.
“This morning, a technical issue affected U.S. flights,” a spokesman said. “Our teams are working hard to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and we apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”
It was unclear what the cause of the technical issue was or how many flights were affected.
Airlines often arrange ground stops to reserve flights at the origin so that the destination airport is not overcrowded with flights due to flight disruptions and has nowhere to park. In addition to technical issues, ground stops were implemented for thunderstorms and other severe weather.
Correction: A ground stop order was issued Tuesday. An earlier version of this story misstated the time.
