A passenger plane crashed near the Kazakh city of Aktau on Wednesday and initial reports showed there were survivors, the Central Asian country’s emergencies ministry said in a statement.

The ministry said emergency services were working to put out a fire at the crash site.

Russian news agencies said the plane, operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, was originally scheduled to fly from Baku to Grozny in Chechnya, Russia, but changed its route due to heavy fog in Grozny.

Azerbaijan Airlines had no immediate comment.

Kazakh media said there were 105 passengers and five crew members on board. Reuters could not immediately confirm the information.
