A court ruling slashed Donald Trump’s civil fraud appeal bond, a financial victory for the former president. But the campaign of his rival, President Joe Biden, found a way to capitalize on the news.
“Donald Trump is weak and hopeless both as a person and as a presidential candidate,” the Biden campaign said in a fiery statement Monday afternoon.
“He played golf all weekend, and in the morning he spent time with JesusBiden campaign spokesman James Singer said at a Trump press conference earlier in the day:
“His campaign can’t raise money, he has no interest in campaigning outside of the country club, and every time he opens his mouth, he pushes away moderates and suburban voters with his dangerous agenda,” Singer said in a statement. .”
“America deserves better than a weak, confused and tired Donald Trump.”
A spokesman for the Trump campaign did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment.
The Biden campaign has stepped up its offensive against Trump in an attempt to reverse the age and physical issues plaguing the 81-year-old Biden.
There were also two major developments in Trump’s criminal and civil court cases on Monday.
In Manhattan, a judge in Trump’s criminal hush-money case set a trial date for April 15. The decision is a blow to Trump, whose lawyers have argued the trial should be delayed to give them time to read a portion of the recently filed record.
During the hearing, a New York appeals court reduced Trump’s bond requirement in his business fraud case to $175 million and gave him 10 days to pay.
Trump has been unable to post a $454 million appeal bond equal to the verdict in the case, and New York Attorney General Letitia James is preparing to begin seizing his assets as soon as Monday.
But the appeals court ruling slashed the bonds by about 60%, a major victory for Trump.
Trump has previously claimed that he would have to “sell” properties to raise enough cash to suspend fines due.
But he also continued to claim that he was flush with cash and that he just wanted to save some money on the presidential campaign.
Asked at a news conference Monday afternoon if he would start providing his own money for the White House, Trump said, “That’s none of your business.”
“I might do it, I have a choice. But if I have to spend $500 million to buy bonds, I don’t have that choice,” Trump said outside 40 Wall Street, the building that bears his name but In fact, it is not owned by Trump.
On Sunday, Biden mocked Trump on social media after Trump boasted about winning two golf trophies at his golf club over the weekend. Biden’s post quickly went viral and had been viewed more than 25 million times as of 6:15 p.m. Monday.
