Last May, Trump’s lawyers were in court Archive Merchal was urged to recuse himself from the case, arguing that his presence created at least the appearance of prejudice.
They highlighted Murchin’s daughter’s role as an executive at Authentic Campaigns, a progressive political consultant that promotes its work for a variety of Democratic clients, including President Joe Biden, who is running against Trump for re-election.
It’s unclear whether Merchan’s daughter still holds the position at Authentic. The company did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment on Trump’s post.
“This situation is particularly problematic given the potential role this case may play in political campaigns and advertising for the 2024 presidential election,” attorneys wrote in a May filing.
“President Trump’s many opponents, including political candidates and organizations, will likely attempt to use this case and any court ruling to attack him,” they wrote. “In fact, nearly all of the clients listed on Authentic’s website are has been critical of President Trump’s past and has raised funds in response to those criticisms.”

At a court hearing on Monday, Merchant ruled that the hush-money case would be heard on April 15, rejecting arguments by Trump’s lawyers seeking a longer delay in reviewing recently filed documents.
The judge balked at the Trump team’s assertion that the Manhattan district attorney withheld evidence in the case.
“You are essentially accusing the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and those who worked on the case of engaging in prosecutorial misconduct and trying to make me complicit in it, without any evidence to support that position,” Merchants told one said the lawyer. For Trump.
Trump’s post Tuesday morning also attacked Murchin’s role in overseeing a case involving former Trump Organization chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg.
Last year, Weisselberg pleaded guilty in connection with the company’s tax fraud scheme and served more than three months in jail at Rikers Island. In March, he pleaded guilty to perjury charges for testifying in a civil trial in which Trump and his company were found guilty of violating New York’s anti-fraud laws.
Trump wrote of Weisselberg that in the previous case, “the judge was very vicious to him and told him either you cooperate or I’m going to put you in jail for 15 years.”
“Now they’re after him again, this time for allegedly lying (which doesn’t look like lying to me!), and they’re threatening him again with 15 years in prison if he doesn’t say bad things about ‘Trump.’ “
“He is shocked and scared! These thugs and thugs who are destroying our country have no case against me. Witch hunt!” Trump wrote.
