Iceland’s Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdottir announced on Friday that she will resign from office and run for president, public broadcaster RUV and daily Morgunbladid reported.
It is unclear who will succeed Jakobsdottir as prime minister, where she has been since 2017.
“I have decided to request the removal of the Prime Minister of Iceland and to run in the upcoming presidential election,” Jakobsdottir said in a video, Morgunbladid reported.
