Everton were docked two points – their second of the season – after an unsuccessful appeal against the Premier League for breaching Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR), the Premier League said on Monday.
The league said the independent committee heard evidence and arguments from the club regarding a range of potential mitigating factors over the £16.6 million ($21 million) breach it admitted had committed, including the impact of two consecutive PSR charges.
“The committee determined that the appropriate sanction was a two-point deduction, effective immediately,” it said in a statement.
