Banks dominate top 5 best companies to work for in Singapore, according to survey LinkedIn announces 2024 list of the nation’s best places to work.

“Commercial banking companies ranging from banks to insurance and digital payments dominate LinkedIn Singapore’s top companies in 2024, accounting for more than half of the top 15 companies (up from just 5 in 2023)” Pooja Chhabria, LinkedIn Asia Pacific editorial director told CNBC Make It.

“This is not surprising as Singapore is an established financial center in the region, characterized by a stable regulatory framework and increasing digital banking adoption,” she said.

LinkedIn’s data evaluates every aspect of career development. It ranks companies based on eight pillars: ability to advance, skill growth, company stability, external opportunities, company affinity, gender diversity; educational background and employee presence in the country.

The list released on Wednesday only includes companies with at least 500 employees in Singapore as of the end of 2023.

Here are the top five names on LinkedIn’s Singapore 2024 list:

Industry: Banking

Company size: 30,000+

Most notable skills: Commercial banking, criminal law, intellectual property

Most common positions: Business development chief, wealth manager, software engineer

Headquartered in the city-state, The Development Bank of Singapore was established by the government in 1968 to finance the young country’s industrialization and urban development plans. It is the largest bank in Southeast Asia today, providing corporate banking and financial services. This is the third consecutive year that DBS Bank has ranked among the top five companies in LinkedIn’s list of the best companies to work for in Singapore.

The French multinational company, founded nearly two centuries ago in 1836, is a new addition to the list. Schneider Electric focuses on energy management and digital automation, and provides solutions across fields such as energy and infrastructure.

Standard Chartered Bank ranked second between 2021 and 2023, falling one spot to third. The international banking group was founded in London in 1969 and provides treasury services as well as retail, corporate and institutional banking.

Another new addition to the list is American Express was founded in Buffalo, New York, in 1850. The global financial services company specializes in credit cards and provides products to consumers and businesses.

OCBC topped the list in 2021, ranked fourth in 2022, and fell off LinkedIn’s list last year. This year, the company is back in the top five. OCBC Bank was established in 1932 and is one of the three major banking giants in China. This multinational financial company provides services ranging from commercial banking to wealth management.According to statistics, nearly 20% of the company’s positions have hybrid schedules LinkedIn.

Another fast-growing industry in Singapore is healthcare.
