Tesla’s filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration acknowledges that the pad on top of the Cybertruck’s accelerator pedal can come loose and become lodged in the interior, causing unintended acceleration.
Tesla’s service department plans to replace or repair the accelerator pedal assembly for free for owners.

Tesla first discovered this problem in a customer on March 31, 2024. The document stated that after evaluating the problem, the company decided to voluntarily recall the Cybertruck on April 12.
Documents show that deliveries of Tesla’s latest electric car, the Cybertruck, have been low, with less than 4,000 units, since Chief Executive Elon Musk launched deliveries during a marketing event on November 29, 2023.
The company reported disappointing vehicle deliveries for the first quarter of 2024, totaling 386,810 vehicles. A decrease of 8.5% compared with the same period last year. Tesla reports first-quarter earnings on Tuesday.
On April 14, CNBC asked NHTSA about the issue of the Cybertruck’s stuck pedals after Martinez’s video raised public awareness about Cybertruck pedal defects and unintended acceleration.
An NHTSA representative said Monday that the agency has received complaints from three owners about the Cybertruck and that the agency is aware of the video. NHTSA said it “uses many data sources during enforcement, including social media and vehicle owner and other relevant forums.”
