The U.S. Justice Department has concluded its investigation into the Mercedes-Benz diesel emissions scandal and the automaker no longer faces charges, the company said on Saturday.
Renata Jungo Bruengger, member of the Mercedes-Benz Board of Directors for Integrity, Governance and Sustainability, said in an emailed statement that Mercedes-Benz is fully cooperating with the Justice Department.
“With the Ministry of Justice’s decision, we are taking another important step towards legal certainty related to the various diesel lawsuits,” she said, confirming an earlier report in German newspaper Handelsblatt about the Ministry of Justice decision. reports.
In 2016, the U.S. Department of Justice asked Mercedes-Benz to conduct an internal investigation into possible emissions manipulation and opened new label values for diesel vehicles.
The automaker is accused of deceiving consumers by promoting its BlueTEC vehicles as “the cleanest, most advanced diesel vehicles in the world.”
