Jamie Dimon’s days as CEO JPMorgan Number – although it’s not clear what the number is.
In response to a question about the bank’s succession plans on Monday, Dimon said he expected his tenure to be no longer than five years. This is a significant change from Dimon’s previous response to the question of succession, where his standard answer was that he was always five years away from retirement.
“The timeline is no longer five years,” Dimon said.
The ambiguity about Dimon’s plans has made the timing of JPMorgan’s succession one of the long-standing questions for the bank’s investors and analysts. Over nearly two decades, Dimon, 68, has made his bank the largest in the United States by assets, market capitalization and a number of other measures.
Still, Dimon added on Monday that he still has “the energy I’ve always had” to run the massive company.
Dimon said the decision on when he will leave will ultimately rest with JPMorgan’s board, and he urged investors and analysts to scrutinize top executives who might succeed him.
“We’re on the road, we’re transporting people,” Dimon said.
However, JPMorgan Chase said he may remain chairman of the bank even if he steps down as CEO.
