Boeing’s Plane deliveries to China have been delayed in recent weeks as Chinese regulators review batteries related to cockpit voice recorders, a person familiar with the matter told Reuters.
The U.S. planemaker said in a statement that it was working with its Chinese customer to determine delivery times pending a review by the Civil Aviation Administration of China of the battery inside the 25-hour cockpit voice recorder.
Boeing said in a late 2023 filing that it had about 140 737-8 planes in its inventory, including 85 for Chinese customers. As of the end of April, Boeing has delivered 22 aircraft to China in 2024.
Boeing said the Federal Aviation Administration has certified the system, which stores more data than past cockpit voice recorders.
China March Boeing Co last month allowed deliveries of its 737 Max 8 to resume to local customers, ending an import freeze that followed the first deliveries of the U.S. planemaker’s most profitable jet in 2019.
China became the first country to ground the Max jets after two crashes in 2018 and 2019 that killed nearly 350 people.
