A U.S. appeals court on Tuesday set a fast-track timetable to consider legal challenges to a new law that requires China’s ByteDance to divest TikTok’s U.S. assets by January 19 or face a ban.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia ordered oral arguments in the case in September after TikTok, ByteDance and a group of TikTok content creators joined the Justice Department in asking the court for a quick schedule earlier this month.

On May 14, a group of TikTok creators filed a lawsuit to block a law that would ban 170 million Americans from using the app, saying the law would “have an impact on American lives” after TikTok and parent company ByteDance filed similar lawsuits. had a profound impact.”

The law, signed by President Joe Biden on April 24, gives ByteDance until January 19 to sell TikTok or face a ban. The White House stated that it would like to see China end its ownership of TikTok due to national security concerns, but does not want to ban TikTok.
