Kentucky prosecutors on Wednesday dropped all criminal charges against golf champion Scottie Scheffler in connection with his controversial May 17 arrest for trying to drive into a club hosting a tournament. PGA Championship in Louisville.
“Based on the totality of the evidence, my office is unable to move forward with prosecution of the charges brought against Mr. Scheffler,” Jefferson County Prosecutor Mike O’Connell told the judge.
Scheffler, 27, a top golfer in the world, faces felony charges of assaulting a police officer and reckless driving in the case.
The charges were dropped a week after Louisville authorities released video that captured the moment Scheffler was arrested by a city detective who objected to him driving around traffic and into the club.
