American chip maker Intel New artificial intelligence chips for data centers announced Tuesday to take on rivals Nvidia and AMD The past two days have showcased upcoming chips.
Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger said at the Computex technology conference in Taiwan that Intel Xeon 6 processors will provide better performance and energy efficiency for high-intensity data center workloads compared with previous generation products.
The news comes as rivals Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices unveiled new artificial intelligence chips on Sunday and Monday, respectively, as they battle for leadership in the booming industry.
It also comes six months after Intel launched Introducing fifth-generation Intel Xeon processors for data center workloads, and two months after announcing the Gaudi 3 processor for AI model training and deployment.
Intel also Tuesday reveal price Gaudi 2 and Gaudi 3 AI accelerator performance is lower than competing chips.
“Customers are looking for high-performance, cost-effective next-generation AI training and inference solutions. They are already turning to alternatives like Gaudi. They want choice. They want open software and hardware solutions and extreme Low total cost of ownership to get time-to-market solutions (total cost of ownership),” Kissinger said.
Intel also revealed architectural details for its upcoming Lunar Lake processors “to continue growing the AI PC category.” this Moon Lake ChipIt is expected to ship in the third quarter and will compete with Nvidia and AMD’s chips designed specifically for AI PCs.
Amid the artificial intelligence boom, tech giants like Meta, Microsoft and Google are buying up Nvidia chips as much as they can, and Intel is trying to catch up with Nvidia and AMD.
