A 2020 Trump campaign aide and two lawyers who worked for the campaign have been charged with forgery in connection with the so-called fake elector scheme to undo President Joe Biden’s electoral victory in the state .

Charges against former campaign aide McCroman and attorneys Kenneth Chesebro and Jim Troupis It is the last in a series of criminal indictments related to former President Donald Trump’s attempts to overturn his loss to Joe Biden in the 2020 election.

Trump himself was charged with crimes related to this conduct in federal court in Washington, D.C., and in state court in Georgia. The Georgia case charges multiple other defendants and also involves alleged crimes related to the state’s scheme to fake electors.

Although Biden won both states, prosecutors in Arizona, Michigan and Nevada have also charged others with crimes related to the assembly of Electoral College slates for Trump in those states. In all,

Chesbrough, 62, who lives in Puerto Rico, pleaded guilty in October to one felony count of conspiracy to file false documents in the same Georgia case against Trump in which he coordinated a scheme to bring 16 Republicans to The scheme to make false claims about becoming Trump’s legitimate electors in the Electoral College.

Roman, a former White House aide during the Trump administration, was charged in the Georgia case with conspiracy to impersonate a public official, first-degree forgery and filing a false document. He has pleaded not guilty in the case.

Roman, 51, of Philadelphia, served as Election Day operations director for Trump’s 2020 campaign.

Troupis, 70, is a Wisconsin attorney and former judge. he is still Wisconsin Judicial Conduct Advisory Commissiona panel appointed by the state’s highest court to advise on judicial ethics, according to the panel’s website.

Georgia, Michigan, Nevada and Wisconsin were some of the battleground states that Biden narrowly won in the Electoral College, the entity that designates the winner of the U.S. presidential election after the popular vote in November.

Court records show Roman, Chesebro and Troupis in the Wisconsin case will have their first appearances in Dane County Circuit Court on Sept. 19.

If convicted, they each face a possible maximum penalty of six years in prison on the forgery charge.

“Great,” Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers said in a brief statement on the indictment against the three men.

Trump will be officially confirmed as the Republican presidential candidate in July, days after he was sentenced in New York City in a criminal hush-money case.
