A Georgia appeals court on Wednesday put the state’s criminal election case against Donald Trump on hold pending the outcome of his disqualification of the district attorney who prosecuted the former president.

The Georgia Court of Appeals order all but guarantees that Trump and eight co-defendants in the case will not go to trial before the November presidential election, in which Trump is the presumptive Republican nominee.

The appeals court said it will hear arguments on October 4 regarding Trump’s attempt to exclude Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis from the case.

The court has until March 14, 2025 to rule on the issue, according to the appeals website.

Trump and other defendants were charged in Fulton County Superior Court in Atlanta with crimes related to an attempt to overturn Trump’s 2020 election loss to President Joe Biden in Georgia’s popular vote.

The appeals court’s order on Wednesday to halt the case also applies to Rudy Giuliani, David Schafer, Robert Chile, Michael Roman, Mark Meadows, Kathy Latham, Jeff Lee Clark and Harrison Floyd.
