The Asian market marks the device’s first appearance outside the United States, with pre-orders starting on Friday.

The VR headset first went on sale in the United States four months ago, with prices starting at $3,499. The Vision Pro will be sold at the highest asking price in China, one of Apple’s most important markets, Basic cost 29,999 yuan ($4,190).

In China, Apple needs to contend with strict government regulation of content. Popular apps on Vision Pro in the US, such as disney+ and Amazon Prime Video is not available in China.

Instead, local Chinese developers and online companies will launch new apps and games for the Apple Vision Pro, the U.S. tech giant said on Tuesday. These include Chinese tech giant Tencent, which will offer its video streaming app Tencent Video and ByteDance will launch a VR version of Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok.

Apple also needs to compete with local rivals working on VR technology, such as Chinese consumer electronics maker Oppo.

But there are already some signs of strong demand for the Vision Pro in China, and a gray market for the headset is emerging. According to a CNBC search of Xianyu, an online flea market app owned by Alibaba, the Vision Pro is selling for up to twice the official price.

“Enthusiasm for Apple Vision Pro has been tremendous, and we’re excited to introduce the magic of spatial computing to more customers around the world,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a statement on Tuesday.

Still, the company made the announcement amid reports that demand for the Vision Pro is waning in the U.S.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Securities reported in April Apple has cut Vision Pro production Due to low demand.

Canalys analyst Le Xu Chiew said: “Vision Pro entered international markets faster than industry expectations and appears to be an attempt to drive sales amid lower-than-expected demand due to its niche use cases and high price tag.” Apple Strategy Research.

Apple said the Vision Pro will also be available for pre-order in Germany, France, Australia, the United Kingdom and Canada on June 28, and the headphones will be available on July 12.

VisionOS 2, the latest version of Apple’s Vision Pro operating system, was also released on Tuesday. The update brings new features and artificial intelligence integration, and the headphones are now compatible with 2,000 apps.
