As in previous years, Amazon said the event will feature millions of deals, with “new discounts available every five minutes for select periods throughout the event.”
The company said it will once again offer an invitation-only offer, where members of the Prime subscription club can apply for an invitation to receive discounts on items that typically sell out quickly. Last year, it launched an invitation-only offer for Prime members for the first time.
Amazon launched Prime Day in 2015 to offer discounts exclusively to members of its main subscription plan. Prime costs $139 per year and includes perks like fast shipping and access to streaming services. The deep discounts are designed in part to attract new Prime subscribers, promote Amazon’s products and services, and boost sales during a typically slower shopping period.
The event is also a big revenue driver for other retailers, who often host competing events on or around Prime Day. Walmart Tuesday declare Its own “Walmart Special” event runs from July 8 to July 11. Target, Kohl’s and Best Buy have launched similar activities.
According to data from Adobe Analytics, U.S. online sales during last year’s Amazon Prime Day event reached a record $12.7 billion, exceeding the $11.9 billion in 2022. Amazon said it sold 375 million items during the two-day discount event, up from 300 million items in 2022.
