Donald Trump’s former aide Steve Bannon was jailed Monday, starting a four-month sentence for refusing to comply with a congressional subpoena.
According to NBC News, Bannon entered the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut, around 12 noon.
In July 2022, a federal jury in Washington, D.C., found Bannon guilty of two counts of contempt of Congress after he refused to provide testimony and records to the House Select Committee investigating the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.
Bannon’s sentence was stayed pending appeal. But after a federal appeals court panel upheld Bannon’s conviction in May, a federal judge ordered him to report to prison by July 1 in early June.
Bannon argued that he was not guilty of contempt because his lawyers advised him not to comply with a congressional subpoena because his testimony could be protected by executive privilege — a defense the appeals court rejected.
His last-ditch effort to avoid jail during his appeal was rejected by the Supreme Court on Friday, when the judge issued a sentence order Bannon’s request was rejected.
When Bannon arrived at a press conference across the street from the Danbury Federal Correctional Institution, he was greeted by Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and a crowd of supporters and protesters.
Shortly before he was reported to have started serving his sentence, he told reporters that he was “proud to be in prison” and had “no regrets.”

Former Trump adviser Peter Navarro was indicted by a federal grand jury in June 2022 for refusing to comply with the committee’s subpoena. He is currently serving a four-month sentence at a Miami federal prison after the Supreme Court rejected a similar appeal in April.
in a Interviewed by NBC News This weekend, Bannon reiterated his argument in an interview with reporter Vaughn Hillyard that the committee’s January 6 subpoena “Meaningless,” and discussed his upcoming time in prison.
“One part of my day will be spent doing what I have to do in prison to make sure I follow the rules and regulations, and the other part of my day I will be working 100 percent to ensure that President Trump is re-elected,” he said.
Bannon told NBC News he will be released from prison on October 31, five days before Election Day.
