Ford The automaker said Wednesday that second-quarter sales rose 1% from a year earlier, with truck sales rising 5%.

Ford truck sales, including pickups and vans, totaled 308,920 units during the period, Ford said, marking the company’s best second-quarter performance for this category of trucks since 2019. F-Series sales totaled 199,463 units.

Ford’s electric vehicle sales totaled 23,957 units in the second quarter, an increase of 61%. The automaker said its electric vehicles, particularly the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning, are attracting new customers to the company.

Meanwhile, hybrid vehicle sales totaled 53,822 units, an increase of 56%, setting a new quarterly sales record since Ford began offering hybrid models more than 20 years ago. Automakers including Ford have relied on hybrids to ease the transition to electric vehicles and help meet stricter federal fuel efficiency standards.

The update comes a day after Ford’s cross-town rival General Motors The report stated that sales in the second quarter increased by 0.6% year-on-year. General Motors said total sales were 696,086 vehicles, its highest quarterly sales record since the fourth quarter of 2020.

Even Ford and General Motors’ sales growth was modest, beating overall market expectations. Auto industry forecasters such as Cox Automotive and Edmunds expect industry-wide sales to be about the same as a year ago in the second quarter.
