MOSCOW – A passenger train carrying 800 people collided with a Kamaz truck on Monday, derailing eight carriages and killing at least two people and injuring as many as 100 others, Russian media reported.

The train was traveling from Kazan in Tatarstan to Adler on the Black Sea when it derailed near the Kotelnikovo station in the southern Volgograd region, about 1,200 kilometers (750 miles) south of Moscow, the Emergency Situations Ministry said. .

“Paramedics are on scene,” the ministry said, adding that 324 first responders were involved in the operation. According to reports, emergency helicopters have also been dispatched.
