Delta Airlines Chief Executive Ed Bastian said a massive IT outage earlier this month that left thousands of customers stranded will cost the company $500 million.

Other airlines recovered more quickly, and Delta’s cascading outages and customer reaction prompted a U.S. Department of Transportation investigation.
Bastian, who was traveling in Paris last week, told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” on Wednesday that the airline would seek damages for the disruption, adding, “We have no choice.”
The disruption is a rare debacle for an airline that has positioned itself as a premium carrier among the best among U.S. airlines in terms of profitability and punctuality.
