After Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump received strong support from some in the tech investing community, a group of venture capitalists have rallied to support the other side.
More than 100 VCs on Wednesday pledge their support Vice President Kamala Harris is the likely Democratic nominee as she ramps up her campaign to take on Trump in the November election.
The group, which calls itself Kamala Ventures, is made up of a range of established and emerging funds, as well as investors and entrepreneurs from different demographic groups. These include Vinod Khosla of Khosla Ventures, LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman and Dallas Mavericks minority owner Mark Cuban, as well as Cowboy Ventures founder Aileen Lee and Union Square Ventures partner Rebecca Kaden.
“Every day we find, invest and support entrepreneurs who are building the future,” the organization said in its pledge. “We support business, we support the American dream, we support entrepreneurship and we support technological advancement. We also believe that democracy is the foundation of our country. pillars. We believe that strong, trustworthy institutions are a feature, not a flaw, and that our industry, and all others, would collapse without them.
Kamala’s venture capital slate highlights the deepening political divisions in Silicon Valley and the broader technology industry. Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk has been an outspoken supporter of Trump, publicly endorsing him shortly after the assassination attempt earlier this month, while venture capitalists Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz Horowitz recently expressed support for Trump, believing that his policies would be better for “small technology”.
Musk also reportedly plans to donate hundreds to a pro-Trump political action committee, known as America PAC, along with Sequoia Capital’s Sean Maguire and 8VC’s Joe Lonsdale Ten thousand U.S. dollars. Musk’s close friend, former PayPal colleague and Craft Ventures co-founder David Sacks has also strongly supported Trump and spoke at the Republican National Convention earlier this month.
Huffman, a longtime Democratic donor and partner at venture capital firm Greylock, shared the pro-Harris link Pledge on Xa social media site owned by Musk.
“Proud to sign the #vcsforkamala pledge,” Huffman wrote. “This is an investment in the future of our democracy.”
