Microsoft, Google and Amazon Like other tech companies, they have gotten creative in how they poach talent from top AI startups.
Earlier this month, Google and role.ai employs its famous founder and more than a fifth of its employees, while also licensing its technology. This may look like an acquisition, but the deal is not structured that way. Google isn’t the first company to take this approach.
Microsoft laid the groundwork for the Inflection deal, followed closely by Amazon’s sham acquisition of Adept.
It’s a playbook for circumventing regulators and their crackdown on Big Tech’s dominance, providing an outlet for struggling AI startups and allowing large corporations to gain access to the talent they need in the AI arms race.
But while tech giants may think they are smarter than antitrust enforcers, they may be playing with fire.
