Amazon’s The checkout function encountered technical issues on Friday, preventing customers from completing their purchases. The e-commerce site displayed an error message with a photo of the dog during the outage when people posted about it on social media.

To run its website, Amazon relies on its own data center infrastructure. But the company’s Amazon Web Services unit didn’t report any technical issues and the checkout function wasn’t working properly. AWS outages can cause problems across the entire network, as many companies rely on the market-leading public cloud.

An Amazon spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Amazon kicks off sales ahead of US long weekend product discounts As part of a Labor Day promotion. But as some people pointed out on the X social network, people were unable to buy discounted products due to the glitch.

The Amazon help account on X responded and suggested contacting the company.

Amazon warned investors that technology incidents could lead to lower sales and poorer perceptions of the company’s products and services. Sales in the second quarter were nearly US$148 billion, a healthy development.
