New York Mayor Eric Adams arrived in Manhattan federal court on Friday morning to be arraigned on criminal charges of accepting illegal campaign contributions and undisclosed luxury travel gifts while benefiting the Turkish government and Turkish businessmen.
Adams, 64, was charged with five counts indictment Unsealed Thursday, the charges include conspiracy, bribery, wire fraud and soliciting campaign contributions from foreigners.
He has vowed to fight the lawsuit even as a growing number of New York politicians call for his resignation and fellow Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul considers whether to invoke a provision the city has never used to force him out. .
Adams is scheduled to appear before a magistrate judge at noon ET and is expected to enter a not guilty plea.
District Court Judge Dale Hoe has scheduled a preliminary conference in Adams’ case for Oct. 2, denying a request from the mayor’s attorney to hold the arraignment and conference in one day.
