Amazon It said Thursday it plans to host an election night special hosted by Brian Williams, marking the company’s first foray into live news coverage.
The one-night special will provide election results and analysis on Prime Video starting at 5 p.m. ET on November 5, the company said. Amazon emphasized that this will be a “nonpartisan presentation” that draws information from a variety of third-party news sources.
Williams will lead special and interviews analysts across the political spectrum. Viewers do not need to subscribe to Prime to watch the live broadcast.
“After 41 years in the industry, from local news to network programming to cable news, this feels like the next big thing,” said Williams, who left NBC News. 2021 After 28 years of operation, release. “Amazon’s global marketplace is the natural home for this first-of-its-kind business.”
Amazon is increasingly getting into live sports programming with its Prime Video streaming service as a way to boost subscriptions and generate additional revenue for its lucrative advertising business. In July this year, Amazon signed an 11-year NBA broadcast rights agreement to broadcast NBA games beginning in the 2025-26 season. Amazon also broadcasts Thursday Night Football games and has rights to some NHL games.
Now, the company is trying to position itself as “the home where news audiences grow.” It offers streaming news channels on Prime Video, including live content from ABC News Live, CNN Headlines, FOX’s LiveNOW and NBC News Now.
