Donald Trump has never been shy about touting his achievements. However, after achieving arguably the greatest political feat of his career, the newly elected president has so far remained silent on social media platforms, where he is usually ubiquitous.
As of Thursday afternoon, Trump had not posted on Truth Social, a platform operated by his social media company Trump Mediastarting before all polls close on Election Day. He also did not promote his victory on X, a social media site owned by his top campaign backer Elon Musk.
Trump officials FacebookThe Instagram and TikTok accounts also have not been updated since Tuesday. The latest of the three posts are video messages from Trump urging Republican voters to line up at the polls.
It’s unclear whether Trump’s absence online is a deliberate message choice or if he is simply taking a break from social media after posting heavily during the campaign.
When asked for clarification, Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said only, “President Trump won a historic election and will now become the 47th President of the United States.”
Trump, of course, is still socializing in other ways. Several world leaders, including the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyenisraeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and british prime minister Keir Starmerhas expressed congratulations with Sichuan Mandarin.
Trump also received calls from defeated opponent Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden, who also congratulated him on his victory.
Trump spent much of Wednesday taking calls from world leaders at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, and he had more calls to return Thursday, a senior campaign official told NBC News.
In an interview with NBC on Thursday afternoon, Trump said he had spoken with about 70 world leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Trump said he has not yet spoken to Russian President Vladimir Putin but believes he will.
According to NBC, Trump is also scheduled to hold his first meeting with his presidential transition team on Thursday.
