President-elect Donald Trump says he will appoint former New York Rep. Lee Zeldin as chief executive Environmental Protection Agency.
Trump said Zeldin, a lawyer who has represented Long Island in Congress for four terms, “has been a true fighter for America First policies.”

“It’s an honor to join President Trump’s Cabinet as EPA Administrator,” Zeldin, 44, tweeted.
“We will restore America’s energy dominance, revitalize our auto industry, bring American jobs, and make the United States a global leader in artificial intelligence,” Zeldin wrote. “We will do so while protecting People get clean air and water.
Zeldin’s lifetime approval rating among the League of Conservation Voters is extremely low — 14 percent — because many of his votes in the House are considered “anti-environmental” by the group.
Zeldin is the Republican nominee for governor of New York State in 2022.
He was defeated by current Gov. Kathy Hochul.
